Chatterbox Kids

While I've stepped away from my Etsy store at the moment (too busy babysitting and tutoring this school year), my sister has stepped up to fill the family craftiness shoes (although let's be for real...she was always the more crafty one anyway!!). Rather than monogramming and embroidery, she is a master seamstress, sewing precious clothes for her little inspiration, MC. If you're a facebook friend of mine, perhaps you've already seen the amazing T-Shirt quilt she made me for Christmas. PERFECTION!! If you haven't, here it is again:

Now back to the main point...Terri is starting her own Etsy store. She's a hard-working, stay-at-home mom looking to make a little extra cash for her family and for some of their favorite charities as well. Through her Etsy store, people can buy baby/toddler/elementary age girl clothes and choose one of three great causes to support. Here are her causes and coupon codes:

2020Clarke- 20% off and 20% of the purchase price will be donated to Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech in Jacksonville. Until May 2012, this donation will be tripled by a private foundation. That means Clarke will receive 3 times 20% of your purchase price. On a $12 purchase, that adds up to $7.20!

2020Uganda- 20% off and 20% of the purchase price will be donated to Boanerges Deaf Initiative in Uganda through Commissioned Believers Deaf Ministry. These donations benefit children who attend a school for the deaf in Kampala, Uganda. The outlook for deaf children in developing countries is typically tragic. Children are often outcast, abused, and have no access to language of any kind. Ministries like Boanerges provide hope and access to the world through sign language, education, and the good news of Jesus.

2020Adopt- 20% off and 20% will be donated towards the adoption of a child with special needs.

And HERE are some pics of items for sale on her Etsy store:

Super cute, right?! She makes little jumpers too and is working on getting everything put on facebook/Etsy. She can make any of the skirts in larger sizes for older girls as well, just send her a message on Etsy. And if you don't have any little ones to buy for...help us out and "favorite" her items on Etsy so they begin to show up more for others to see. You can also "Like" her facebook page: Click here! OR "pin" her items on Pinterest so they link to her Etsy site.

Thanks so much everybody, your support means the world! : )

A change of pace - BOWS!

Well hello there! It's been a while! I've had a lovely summer frolicking around the mountains and Boston. How about you? Hope you're well! It's time for a little crafting update. While I've enjoyed my embroidery machine dearly for the past 9 months, I've decided to take a break from it for a while. I'm looking to new adventures in the crafting world, but am not straying too far outside of my baby/child focused genre. After buying my sweet niece/inspiration a few gifts...I discovered the gold mine people must have of making bows. After paying a ridiculous amount for a plain little brown bow, I decided I'd learn to make them myself! Plus, I have various grosgrain ribbon lying around my craft space from burp cloths, tutus, etc that needs to be used. So today I bought the remaining supplies (hot glue gun and barrette closures) and got to work! Here are my humble first attempts at bow making:

I'll call this one "The Sarah"...as it's perfect for any Georgia Bulldog fans out there.

This next one is fall inspired...plus I had limited color choices.

Now for a Clemson Trio in honor of football season...the one week countdown has almost begun people!! Get Excited!!

And finally, a classic and ever fashionable pink. Better known as "The Amy."

Now I must say, I wanted to use alligator clips rather than barrettes for the closures, but Michaels was out...of course. But it's only a matter of time. This weekend my sister and I are planning to make a ton of fun bows together for my niece and hopefully we'll learn some fancy new tricks. Can't wait!

Carolina Pride

A few weeks ago I got a little crazy and bought 4 size 2T Rosalina dresses on Zulily. If you've never heard of it, it's a great website to buy boutique baby clothes and accessories for lower prices. Every once and a while I find a great deal on something that could be embroidered (aka the tennis racket covers from a few posts ago and these little gingham dresses). If you've never signed up for a Zulily account or their daily emails, use my personalized link: http://www.zulily.com/invite/mcallura918

So here are the two dresses I've embroidered so far. I decided to go with our Carolina pride and joy, the Palmetto Tree and Crescent Moon. They, like many items, don't photograph quite as cute as they look in person.

I have two pink and two blue dresses. I think I might use a matching blue thread for the embroidery on the second blue dress rather than white. We'll see.

As always you can find these and other items I have on Etsy.

Tennis Racket Covers

Ready to have the cutest kid on the court? Check out these super fun tennis racket covers I found online. I would have loved one of these back in the day when I took lessons. They're perfect for summer camps too. They're also a fun branch out for me from the usual baby items. Although I must say, the embroidery doesn't photograph well because the print is so busy. Some things just can't come across as cute on the blog. I'm searching for more of these with a more grown up print, but not having a lot of luck so far. I can find some beautiful ones, but they are a fortune. Hopefully I'll come across something soon!

Preptastic Boy Bibs

There's something I just can't resist about preppy baby clothes and accessories. I've always been a country club sort of dresser myself...perhaps that's what influenced me to become such a golf fan, who knows? But one's things for sure, these bibs are 100% preptastic, and I love them! I'm a born and raised mountains girl, but even I can appreciate how much these scream Charleston. If you like them as well, check out my etsy store or message me on facebook about making some for your favorite little one. Sweet little sailboats, I mean come on, who can resist???

Weepublicans and Babycrats

It's time to pick your poison everybody. Is your baby a little weepublican or a babycrat? I fell in love with these applique designs as soon as I saw them. Jarred and I just think they're hilarious, and we can stop saying "weepublican" in silly baby voices. Haha! We're lame of course!! But don't you just love them?!

Elegant Bib and Burp Cloth Set

I made this bib and burp cloth set for a teacher friend of mine who just had a precious baby girl. She is wonderful and classic, and that's what I tried to emulate here. Sometimes simple elegance just can't be beat.

Mistakes Make ME Stronger!

As of late, I've shared a lot of wonderful new projects I've somehow managed to create. But I'm here to tell you, it's by no skill of my own...but by the Grace of God!! Since I first got this machine in October, I've messed up about as many things as I've made successfully. Tonight I was working on a new burp cloth that was going to be dynamite! I mean DYNAMITE! But just when I was nearing the end, that old familiar tragedy struck again. I shrunk my paws too small, and the machine just couldn't handle it. Burp cloth ruined. But it's okay...failure hasn't stopped me yet!

The words purple and orange are actually in purple and orange, some things just don't photograph quite right...especially in my apartment lighting. It was also going to have three precious mini tigers paws scattered around it.

If anybody wants one...I'll do it again. I know I can make it work with a big paw on top and the writing underneath. But I can't make another one recreationally...well, until I make some more money! : )

Smells Like Team Spirit

I've had some fun orders lately for collegiate and sports themed baby items. Here's a few pics of my latest creations! Tigers, more Tigers, and some Yankees too!

Real Tigers First...

For the mixed breeds out there...half gamecock, better half tiger

And for the those "other" tiger fans...

Any baby Yankees out there? I'm loving this cuddly kid-sized sweatshirt blanket:

Etsy Official!

These days we all know you aren't in a relationship unless it is "facebook official." Well the same holds true for Etsy and the arts and crafts business. Until now I've been dabbling in embroidery, but there's been no formal store or business, just making items for the friends I know and love (and who would still love me if items weren't 100% perfect). But I'm here to formally announce that I'm finally 100% Etsy Official! Last night I even made my very first sale! All the way from Laguna Niguel, California, I received an order for 4 travel mugs. Hooray! We'll see how long this lasts though, I think it may have just been beginners luck! But I'm good with that. Even if I don't sell another thing, at least I did it! Out of all the millions of items on Etsy, a complete stranger liked my suff! Whoo hoo!!

Here's the link to my store: http://www.etsy.com/shop/mecallura

Thanks for all the love and support you guys have shown me as I've traveled along this journey. 9 months ago I had never even used an embroidery machine. I'll never forget my first trip to the fabric store, staring wide-eyed around the place, not having a clue what to buy. And now a bride all the way in California has asked me to make gifts for her wedding party. Who would have ever thought?!

First order ready to ship!

Isn't She Lovely

Introducing my blog's first ever model!  Sporting her very own personalized apron, Miss Langley cooks Mother's Day dinner for her mommy. So sweet! Thanks for the pics Desiree. Makes embroidery all the more fun when I get pictures of items in action!

What a cutie!

Let's Hear it For the Boys!

It's a Boy Sippy Cup Extravaganza! I make a lot of girlie things, so it's time for the boys to get some face time! Until today I didn't have very many boyish fabrics, but a quick trip to the fabric store solved that! Let's hear it for the boys!

The Magic of Crayola

What child doesn't love to get their hands on a brand new box of Crayolas and go to town expressing their creativity? There's just something magical about a fresh pack of perfectly sharpened crayons. Maybe it's the teacher in me, but I can't help but love my latest find for embroidery. Big Girl Adventures, in conjuction with Crayola, presents the following Doodlebugz apron and purse:

Front:

Back:

There's also a little white pad of paper that goes in the middle of this apron, but I forgot to put it back before taking the picture:

I hope Langley enjoys her new Crayola accessories!

And in other embroidery news, here are a few boy inspired football sippy cups. The one on the left is my first time using a straw sippy, and the one on the right is for a special little App State fan.

Travel Mug Fundraiser

As you guys know, two of my favorite things are embroidering and using my embroidery to make the day of others. I specifically love making personalized travel mugs. They are one of my favorite things to embroidery because 1) they are easy and 2) there are so many fun possibilities for them! Recently on facebook, a friend suggested that I do fundraisers for people to sell mugs and make money for their cause. And I thought...umm WHOA!! Amazing Idea!! I would love that! So here's what I propose to you:

For someone who is raising money for a ministry or cause they believe in, I will make mugs (like the one on the left in the picture) for $5 each. The person raising money can sell the mugs for $10-$15 each and keep all profit for their cause. Whether it's for a mission trip, youth group, cancer research, etc. As sellers take orders, they can either have the mugs say the buyer's monogrammed initials or have a standard design supporting the cause.

Let me know if you or someone you know are interested in fundraising this way. It would be my honor to help you out!

The Greatest Week of the Year

It's here, it's here, it's finally here!!
Masters' week has finally come, and I'm heading down to Augusta on Wednesday to be a part of the hustle and bustle. In honor of my favorite week of the year, I've decided to share a few of my Masters' adventures. I've been blessed to have quite a few, and I can never thank enough the wonderful people who've helped me make such special memories over the years. When my dear friend John invited me to grace the greens of Augusta National for the first time, my mom says it's the most excited she'd ever seen me for anything in my entire life (including getting my first car, etc).

I've also had the pleasure of attending with my friends Erika and Coby, and I'll be forever grateful to them for their kindness in inviting me. Each time, Augusta National was just a beautiful and pristine as the time before. The magic that floats through the air there never dies.

(Some years are colder than others)

But of all the times I've been, one time stands out above the rest, and I have AT&T to thank for it...

Each year I work for a catering company whose main client is AT&T. They pour insane amounts of money into wining and dining their top clients at the Masters, and I get to serve them. This brings the opportunity to hear great speakers such as Paul Azinger, Boo Weekley, DJ Trahan, Billy Mayfair, Ian Baker Finch, Tony Romo, etc. As the years have gone on, I've become friends with the great people who work for AT&T and are in charge of running their events each year. Part of their job is to make sure all of their clients have the best seating available around the golf course. Now here's where I come in. I've not always had the luxury of scoring crazy expensive badges to get in the tournament on my own. Several of my journeys onto the course have been through what we call "chair duty."

Early in the morning, when the gates first open, thousands of people rush onto the course to set out their chairs. As you can imagine, crazy rich entitled folks are a little too lazy to do that themselves. So little eager worker bees like myself get to rush out and set chairs for them. But here's the great memory and reward of this duty. Not only do I get to go into the tournament for a quick view of the course and trip to the merchandise tent...which would be worth the trouble in and of itself, but because AT&T is one of the only outside sponsors of the Masters, they get to drive onto the property of Augusta National rather than going through the regular patron gates. Now let me spell this out for you a little bit more...AT&T doesn't turn into just any 'ol entrance...oh no...AT&T turns down the hallowed Magnolia Lane. The same entrance that the likes of Jack Nicholas, Arnold Palmer, Tiger Woods, etc. enter through. The entrance that the greatest champions of the game have used. And piddly 'ol me has been able to turn down that covered drive of Magnolias up to the clubhouse. I'm pretty sure I almost passed out the first time. Now I don't want to get carried away, we don't drive ALL the way down Magnolia Lane, but rather quickly turn off to skirt around the edge of the course. But for a few yards...it's me, the magnolias, and the history of the greatest sporting event in the world, together in pure bliss. Now the memory could stop here and be the greatest. But there's more, oh there's more. Before going out on the course for the day, AT&T clients are allowed to go into a cabin on the course and have breakfast, etc. So this means I have been in a cabin at the Augusta National Golf Club. I mean come on, who gets to do that?!! SO BLESSED to have the opportunity!

On that special Sunday morning I went on to be a champion chair putter-outer, blocking out a green jacket member for the prime viewing spot on the 18th green. You're not allowed to run on the course, so I'm proud to say my blazing fitness walking skills dominated the other spectators for the victory. I like to think I'm the greatest chair duty worker AT&T and Augusta National have ever seen. I'm certainly honored by the opportunity.
